Buccal Fat Pad Removal

• Share your health information with your plastic surgeon, remember to mention if you have allergies, previous surgeries, use of medications, vitamins or supplements and any other relevant medical information
• Photos at different angles will be requested in order to carry out a complete evaluation
• Pre-surgery blood tests will be ordered
• You’ll need to quit smoking completely

🗓️ 1 MONTH BEFORE SURGERY

• Stop smoking 1 month before your scheduled procedure
• Stop taking alcohol 1 week before the procedure
• Avoid using aspirin, fish oil, garlic and omegas, at least 3 weeks before the procedure *if you are medically required to do so, it is very important you let your medical coordinator know about this
• No exercise 3 days before the surgery
• Avoid eating very greasy food 2 days before your surgery
• Plan for your stay in Cancun for surgery and recovery

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is applied directly inside the mouth in order to completely numb the area where the buccal fat is located.  In cases that some patients are very nervous a mild sedation is given prior the beginning of the procedure for patient’s comfort.

Description of the Procedure, Incisions and Sutures

The incisions are minimally invasive inside the mouth, so no scar will be visible. The surgeon will proceed to access the incision to locate the fad pad and proceed to remove it. The volume of the buccal fat pads go from 7 to 10 cc in volume.

Right After Surgery

After the procedure is finished, your surgeon might place some dissolvable stitches where the incisions where made. In some cases stitches are not needed. Afterwards you will be provided with a prescription for antibiotics and pain killers to help with the swelling and avoid infection. After a few days you will come in the office for a final follow up.

After the procedure, the plastic surgeon will prescribe pain relievers and antibiotics. You will need to wait at least 3 hours before eating. Meanwhile you can drink cold water. It is recommended that during the following 3 days you use ice over the cheeks to help with the swelling. You should avoid exercising for at least 2 weeks. It is important that you follow the recommendations of your surgeon to obtain a good result.

You may go back to work in 1-2 days.

Recovery is fast, you will be able to return to your hotel / home a 1 hour after the procedure. In case a stitch was placed, it will be dissolvable. No need to remove anything. Avoid playing with the stiches with your tongue.

⚠️Results are not immediate, you might see a light decrease in volume in the cheeks.

👀 You will need to wait 2 to 3 months for the swelling to go down and see final results of the buccal fat pad removal.

Although risks, complications, and side effects rarely occur during facial fillers, they can include:

• Hematoma
• Injury to facial nerve branches
• Injury to the salival duct
• Change in sensitivity
• Bleeding
• infection
• Asymmetry

Following the recommendations and post-treatment indications of your surgeon will favor a good result.
