Facial Fillers

The procedure for fat graft facial fillers consists of two parts. The first is the extraction as such of the fatty tissue and the second part is the application itself of the fatty graft in the desired facial areas. In total, the entire procedure takes about 60 to 90 minutes.

Anesthesia

The fat graft will be taken from the area designated as the donor, most of the cases correspond to the periumbilical region, on other occasions it can also be taken from the inner thigh. To obtain the fat graft, a special solution is applied with local anesthesia to the donor area to numb the area and begin the process of suctioning the fat. Generally, 10 to 30 ml of fat is obtained, depending on the needs of the patient.

Description of the Procedure, Incisions and Sutures

The incisions are minimally invasive, less than 3mm to obtain the fat graft, these will be hidden in the area that covers the underwear so that they are hidden. The suture used is very fine, thinner than a hair, and will be removed within 7 days after the procedure.

Once you have the desired amount of fat, it is processed and prepared for the second part, which will be the application of it to the desired facial areas.

The facial areas to be improved will be demarcated, and both topical and local anesthesia will be placed to numb the area and allow a painless procedure. And the application of the fat graft will be carried out in the determined areas.

Right After Surgery

After the application of the fat graft has been completed, you will be given a prescription with antibiotic-type medications, analgesics and those that the surgeon deems necessary for your recovery. The date of your next appointment for review and withdrawal of points will be indicated.

After the procedure, the plastic surgeon will prescribe pain relievers and antibiotics.

⚠️ It is recommended that during the month following the procedure you avoid the following:

• ☀️ Being under the sun, or in very hot places.
• 🥶Using ice where the graft was injected. Ice will most likely kill the new injected graft.
• Avoid exercising for a period of approximately 2 weeks.

Recovery is quite fast, you will be able to return to your hotel / home a few hours after the procedure. The stitches are removed 5-7 days after surgery. Results start to show around day 10, once the area has deflated a bit. It is VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT USE COLD PADS OR ICE, as this affects the graft and could be destroyed.

• Don’t use tea bags or any other food to put over your eyelids
• Do not use cold pads or ice over the areas where the fat graft fillers were applied.
• Remember to maintain your head elevated during your sleep, at least by 45 degrees or with two pillows
• Be very gentle when cleaning your face
• Avoid the use of creams or makeup in the surgical area at least for 1week
• Even though you may feel good and without any pain, you should avoid trying to feel the fillers or massage your face for at least 3 weeks, to allow the area to heal properly

Although risks, complications, and side effects rarely occur during facial fillers, they can include:

• Bruises
• Inflammation
• Granulomas * (associated with hyaluronic acid)
• Complications related to anesthesia
• Bleeding
• infection
• Asymmetry
• Allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid
